Mission Statement
Ordo Magni Operis ("Order of the Great Work"; hereinafter "the Order" or "the OMO") is an association of men and women who have chosen to work together for mutual as well as their own Spiritual improvement following a path modeled on the writings and practices of the ancient Alchemists.
By Alchemy is meant here that Spiritual Work perhaps best described at length in his works by noted psychologist Carl Gustav Jung—the Purification of the Self—whose ultimate goal is the fullest realization of our Humanity. The life-long pursuit of this goal has been variously described as the Philosopher’s Stone and the Great Work, and involves laboratory practice as well as a contemplative aspect.
It is the aim of the Order to be Spiritual without being Religious in nature. In other words, we conceive of a Unity (Spirit) metaphysically present in, with, and under all things, whether visible or invisible, which may without prejudice be interpreted as one God, multiple Gods, or some other Force or Forces, as may suit the individual Member best. In a similar vein, the proper application of Order Teachings is in general left to the conscience of the Individual, with the proviso that it is expected of all members that they shall at all times strive individually and collectively for the Summum Bonum (the Greater Good) of Humanity and other Beings within a Cosmic context.
In terms of Teaching, the Order is inclusive in nature, considering both Eastern and Western philosophical perspectives, the Ancient and the New, and the methods of Mysticism as well as those of Science.
In its practice, the Order is partly Ceremonial in expression, in that we use Ceremonial Ritual to reflect on Archetypal and Existential questions as a means to self-knowledge and purification.
Associateship in the Order is available to everyone upon application and the submission of a modest annual fee to assist in defraying administrative expenses.
Full Membership is by invitation from the Associateship following a period of mutual evaluation in order to ensure as much as possible that harmony with existing participants is preserved in the interest of the Great Work. Within the scope of that limitation, however, no serious applicant truly interested in joining with us on the Alchemical Path who is willing and able to participate in the activities of the Order will be turned away.
